Jake brings over 20 years of hockey and sports experience to the team at Advantage Sports Consulting. Jake spent his minor hockey years playing for the Semiahmoo Ravens before being drafted by the Medicine Hat Tigers. He then moved on to play Major Midget for the Valley West Hawks in grade 10, the same year which he competed for Team BC and won Gold at Western Canadians. The following year he followed by playing for the Delta Hockey Academy (CSSHL) in grade 11. He then moved to the junior ranks, where he played one season between the Delta Ice Hawks and Trail Smoke Eaters, followed by three seasons for the Estevan Bruins, where he was named Captain and lead his team to game 7 of the league finals, and had WHL affiliations with Medicine Hat Tigers, Vancouver Giants, and Swift Current Broncos.
Following a successful junior career, Jake committed to Concordia University in Montreal where he played two seasons, losing his third year to Covid-19 shutting down sports and his fourth year to injury. While at Concordia he completed his Bachelor of Applied Human Sciences, majoring in Human Relations with a specialization in Organizational Development and Change. He went on to play his fifth year of eligibility at the University of Regina where he had a point-per-game and completed his Business Administration program in just one year. While in his final year Jake was honoured as an Academic All-Canadian.
Jake followed his university career by signing in the ECHL with the Adirondack Thunder. Despite offers to play in Adirondack and professionally in Europe Jake felt the time to leave his playing days behind had come. He ultimately decided to return home and pass his knowledge forward to the youth athletes coming up through the ranks.
Jake has a passion for working with younger athletes (and their families) and developing plans that work to their strengths. His journey as a hockey player was filled with many ups and downs and now that he has retired, his goal is to use his experiences and knowledge to help support other aspiring athletes as they navigate their wholistic personal journey. Currently he also works as a strength and conditioning coach at Semiahmoo Athletic Club and as an HR Consultant. With his experience and knowledge as an athlete and current role as a strength and conditioning coach, Jake is positioned to help young athletes address any issues or concerns they may have and is excited to help everyone succeed, from the All-Star to the Underdog.
Jake has shown lifelong dedication to fitness and nutrition. This led not only to his degree from Concordia which was focused on human sciences but also to a certificate from Cornell University online. He completed his Nutrition and Healthy Living certificate from Cornell in early 2024. His previous knowledge supplemented with a formal 6-month education from an Ivy League school puts Jake in a unique position to offer sport specific nutrition coaching for any athlete in need.
In his spare time Jake enjoys staying busy by golfing, CrossFit, cooking, and taking his dogs to the beach.
