Growing up in the realm of volleyball, Kayla found inspiration in her sisters, who went on to play post-secondary at Western University and the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Witnessing their post-secondary success fueled her own desire to pursue volleyball, and she has been an active member of the volleyball community ever since.
Kayla grew up in North Vancouver, BC, playing at the local volleyball club, BCO, before making the move to Thunder Volleyball Club at the age of 16. In 2018, her U18 club team won the Provincial Championship and the National Championship. As well, Kayla represented BC at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Her volleyball journey continued at the University of British Columbia, playing for the Thunderbirds. Here she pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Sciences, specializing in a Combined Major of Life Sciences, Chemistry, and Computer Science, and is currently completing her final year. Kayla was recognized as an Academic All-Canadian for the 2022-2023 season, successfully balancing the demands of both academics and athletics. Throughout her five years playing at UBC, Kayla is a two-time USPORTS National Champion (2019 & 2023).
Kayla has been heavily involved in the coaching and mentorship of young female athletes. She enjoys helping young female athletes in their holistic development, guiding them to become resilient individuals both in their athletic and academic endeavours.
When not at the library or on the volleyball court, Kayla enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family and reading.
